The Roy Rogers Show TV Show Information and Trivia
- "The Roy Rogers Show" was first shown on December 30, 1951. It was
in black and white, was 30 minutes long, and was shown on the NBC network. It
ran new episodes until June of 1957.
- After "The Roy Rogers Show" stopped making new shows for NBC, the CBS
network showed reruns of it for four years.
- All of the stars of the show had characters with the same name as their
real-life names. The stars of the show were:
- Roy Rogers - Roy had become an international superstar as a singing
cowboy in the movies, and was widely known as King Of The Cowboys.
- Trigger - Trigger was Roy's palomino
horse. Trigger had been partnered with Roy from Roy's very first starring role
in the movies in "Under Western Stars,' released in 1938. Roy purchased
Trigger for
his own shortly thereafter.
- Dale Evans - Dale was known as "Queen Of The West." She was also Roy's real-life wife,
having married him on December
31, 1947.
- Pat Brady -
Pat Brady was a long-time friend of Roy and Dale's. He was a
member of the popular Western singing group founded by Roy, the
Sons Of The Pioneers, and had appeared in many of Roy's movies.
- Nellybelle - Nellybelle was Pat Brady's Jeep, and was a prominent character in
the show. Even though Pat
also had a horse named Phineas, he most often chose to drive
Nellybelle.
- Bullet The Wonder Dog - Bullet was a German Shepherd that was also a Rogers family pet.
He was often a featured part of the cast, always coming to the rescue at
just the right time.
- Buttermilk - While Trigger's name was mentioned by the announcer in the
opening credits of the show, Buttermilk's wasn't. However, Buttermilk's name
was mentioned in many episodes and he was a regular member of the cast.
- Post Cereals sponsored "The Roy Rogers Show."
- The show took place in Mineral City in Paradise Valley.
- Roy Rogers and Dale Evans played sweethearts on the show, and
were married to each other in real life. Their relationship on the show never
featured any heavy romance, but instead quietly showcased their friendship,
respect, and trust in one another.
- On the show Roy owned
the Double R Bar Ranch, which was the same name as his and Dale's home in
Encino, California.
- On the show Dale ran the Eureka
Cafe that was also a hotel.
Pat Brady cooked for the cafe.
- In many of the movies Dale Evans had made with Roy Rogers, she had ridden a
palomino horse named Pal. However, Roy and Dale were concerned that Pal would look too
much like Roy's palomino horse Trigger on a smaller television screen, so for the
television show Dale got a new buckskin colored horse named Buttermilk.
- The chorus of "Happy Trails," Roy and Dale's signature theme song, was sung by Roy and Dale at the close of each show.
"Happy Trails" was just one highly popular and successful song written by Dale
Evans.
