Roy Rogers Play Sets

Below are Roy Rogers play sets (or playsets), play set figures, and related items for sale on eBay. A playset is a collection of toy figures, usually small in size, along with accessories (such as small buildings), that are made to interact and be played with together. To the best of our research, the first Roy Rogers play set was made by the Louis Marx and Company toy company in 1952 after the debut of "The Roy Rogers Show" on television in December of 1951. Many of the playsets include popular characters from the show including Trigger, Dale Evans, Pat Brady, and Bullet The Wonder Dog.

Keep in mind that the Roy Rogers play sets below may have been made several decades ago or they may be much newer.

The First Roy Rogers Play Sets (Playsets)

During the 1950s and 1960 the Louis Marx and Company toy company manufactured thousands of Western toys for children. Many of these toys were "unbranded," or not associated with any particular merchandising rights. However, the company also acquired the rights to make toys in the image and likeness of many popular Western movie and television characters, including Roy Rogers.

In 1952 Marx produced the first branded Western play sets, the Roy Rogers Ranch and the Roy Rogers Mineral City (Mineral City was the fictional town used as the setting for "The Roy Rogers Show" on television, 1951 - 1957). The popularity of these first two playsets led to the production of more than a dozen Roy Rogers play sets by Marx in the 1950s. The earliest playset figures were made from a rubber-like and flexible plastic. In the late 1950s Marx began to make figures on a slightly smaller scale, and from a different plastic that allowed for greater detail in the figures.

Not all Roy Rogers play sets were made by Louis Marx and Company. For example, the Ideal Toy Company made a well-know Roy Rogers chuck wagon play set in the 1950s.

Use Caution When Buying Roy Rogers Play Sets and Accessories

Play set figures and/or accessories can sometimes be difficult to accurately identify, date, and associate with the correct manufacturer. Sellers on eBay are not always experts, and sometimes make mistakes when identifying, dating, and describing playsets and their related items. In addition, because the Roy Rogers name is so popular, some sellers will use the name with play set items that are not related to a Roy Rogers play set.

When considering purchasing play set items from an eBay seller, ask the seller any questions you may have BEFORE you bid or buy. Also make sure that any items you bid on or buy satisfy your knowledge of what the item really is, not just the seller's.
